Although our father tried to escape his destiny of working in the Persian rug trade by becoming an ophthalmologist, it was inevitable that his love and passion for these pieces would lead him back into his father's business, which has been around since 1952. In the 1990s, he joined the import and export trade, and ever since, handmade Persian rugs have been an essential part of our lives. Jumping from pile to pile in Hamburg's enchanted Speicherstadt, sitting and playing on rugs in our rooms while listening to stories about their origins, the fascinating lives of Persian nomads, and the meanings behind different motifs became second nature to us. All of this and so many more "rug tales" have accompanied us throughout our lives. But as so often happens, what is right in front of your eyes can be overlooked. So instead of joining our father's company right away, we initially pursued our own paths. Vida studied fashion styling in Paris and completed her master's in sustainability in fashion in Berlin, where she worked as a marketing manager for several digital fashion and furniture retailers over recent years. Amin began studying business and finished his master's degree in Madrid. Eventually, we both decided to join the family business to pass these "Rugtales" on to our generation. Since August 1st, our online shop has been live, where you will find rugs and Kelim in all sizes, colors, patterns, and origins. From colorful Kelim handwoven by Gashgai nomads to modern vintage rugs, all the way to finely knotted rugs from celebrated cities like Nain and Isfahan, everything is available. At Rugtales, it is important to us to offer something for every taste while always maintaining fair value. Every Rugtales rug is a handcrafted, one-of-a-kind piece made from natural materials such as sheep's wool and cotton. These Persian rugs carry centuries of tradition, and each rug is unique in design, color, quality, and size; crafted by experienced weavers and the result of age-old traditions combined with the individual taste of the artisan. All of our rugs currently come exclusively from Persia, where we have built close, trusting relationships with buyers and weavers over many decades. We handpick every single rug available online ourselves, and we only offer what we would gladly place in our own homes. New arrivals are added every week, and if you have special wishes regarding size, design, or color, you can write to us anytime.
