Bidjar rugs come from the town of the same name in western Persia, a region shaped by Kurdish culture with a long weaving tradition. They are known above all for their robustness. During knotting the weave is kept damp and the weft is beaten down firmly with heavy combs; this creates the dense, almost rigid structure that has earned the Bidjar its reputation. It makes them particularly hard-wearing and long-lasting, which is why they are better rolled than folded for transport. Their patterns are mostly clearly structured, often with a medallion or continuous scrollwork in strong reds, blues and beiges. Where hand-spun wool has been used, it brings subtle colour nuances (Abrash) that give the piece its own depth.

This rug measures 350 × 270 cm and works well in a living room, dining room or bedroom. It comes in red and features a central medallion; the border is blue. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 100% virgin wool and a foundation of 100% cotton. Rugs of this quality typically have 360,000 to 490,000 knots per square metre. It is between 50 and 100 years old.

In the living room, a red rug becomes a warm island that anchors the seating; the coffee table stands fully on it and the sofa sits flush.
