Dorokhsh lies in eastern Persia, in the vast region of Khorasan, a landscape with a long, rich weaving tradition. The rugs that bear the town's name are known for their dense, detailed patterns and vibrant colouring, often in carmine red, beige and dark blue. Floral compositions are typical, as all-over patterns or set around a medallion. Finely knotted by hand, the Dorokhsh combines dense pattern artistry with a hard-wearing pile. Where hand-spun, naturally dyed yarn has been used, a subtle Abrash traces the colours with life. A Dorokhsh is therefore less a floor covering than a picture that tells a story, a piece of Khorasan knotting art.

This rug measures 365 × 300 cm. It comes in blue and features a central medallion; the border is blue too. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 100% virgin wool and a foundation of 100% cotton. It is over 100 years old, which makes it an antique piece.

A blue rug feels calm and clear; with pale walls, wood and brass its colour comes out especially well.
