Bidjar rugs come from the city of the same name in western Persia, a Kurdish-influenced region with a long weaving tradition. Bookan is a knotting town in the Kurdish-influenced north-west that stands in the same tradition as the city of Bidjar itself. The work is often done in village workshops, following designs handed down within the family; the drawing often turns out somewhat more geometric and calmer. The Bidjar tradition is known above all for its robustness: the rugs are densely knotted and firmly beaten down, which makes them hard-wearing and long-lasting. Their patterns are mostly clearly structured, often with a medallion or continuous tendril work in strong red, blue and beige tones. Where the wool is hand-spun, it brings fine nuances of colour (Abrash) that give each piece its own depth.

This rug measures 247 × 207 cm in a square format and works well in a living room, dining room or children's room. It comes in blue and features a central medallion; the border is red. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 90% virgin wool, 10% silk and a foundation of 100% cotton. Rugs of this quality typically have 360,000 to 490,000 knots per square metre. It is between 20 and 50 years old.

In the living room, a square blue rug anchors two armchairs and a coffee table into a calm island.
