Sarough is a weaving village north of the city of Arak in Persia, formerly called Sultanabad. The rugs of the region are known for their dense pile, their heavy, firm construction and their careful workmanship; it is precisely this firm construction that makes them rugs for well-trodden rooms. Antique Sarough are particularly prized by collectors. Typical are floral patterns, often composed around a central medallion. Where hand-spun wool has been used, it brings fine nuances of colour, the Abrash, which lends depth to the dense pile.

This runner measures 390 × 77 cm and works well in a hallway or kitchen. It comes in beige and features a central medallion; the border is red. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 100% virgin wool and a foundation of 100% cotton. Rugs of this quality typically have 250,000 to 490,000 knots per square metre. It is between 20 and 50 years old.

A beige runner makes the hallway bright and spacious; leave a hand's width of floor free on both sides, or better still, two.

With the AR Visualizer, you can place this runner in your room to scale before you order and see how it looks.
