Zanjan lies in north-western Persia, on an old trade route between the great knotting regions, a hub where wool, patterns and experience have long come together. The Zandjan rugs of the town and its villages stand in this tradition: neatly placed knots, clearly structured fields and a world of patterns that oscillates between geometric rigour and floral suggestion. Often everything is arranged around a central medallion, framed by recurring borders familiar from the neighbouring weaving villages. It is a craft of long winters, in which the women at the loom pass on what they themselves have learned. Where the wool is hand-spun, the shades shift from row to row. This movement in tone, called Abrash, is part of the character of a hand-knotted Zandjan.

This rug measures 224 × 145 cm and works well in a living room. It comes in red and features a central medallion; the border is beige. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 100% virgin wool and a foundation of 100% cotton. Rugs of this quality typically have 250,000 to 360,000 knots per square metre. It is between 20 and 50 years old.

In the living room, a red rug becomes a warm island that anchors the seating; the coffee table stands fully on it and the sofa sits flush.

With the AR Visualizer, you can place this rug in your room to scale before you order and see how it looks.
