Kashmar rugs come from the town of the same name in north-eastern Persia, in the Khorasan region. They are known for their narrative motifs: they often depict scenes from Persian mythology and old stories, such as kings, riders and gardens from the great epics, framed by many-layered borders. Some pieces also take up reliefs and figures of the kind known from the ancient palace complexes of Persia. In this way a storytelling tradition lives on that begins as a drawing before the knotting and is then translated into wool row by row. The colour compositions are deep and varied, the knotting careful and dense. Each Kashmar thus becomes a small pictorial rug that brings its own story into the room. Where the wool is hand-spun, it carries fine colour nuances (Abrash) that bring the motifs to life.

This rug measures 61 × 91 cm. It comes in blue and features a central medallion; the border is multicoloured. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 100% virgin wool and a foundation of 100% cotton. Rugs of this quality typically have 250,000 to 360,000 knots per square metre. It is between 20 and 50 years old.

A blue rug feels calm and clear; with pale walls, wood and brass its colour comes out especially well.

With the AR Visualizer, you can place this rug in your room to scale before you order and see how it looks.
