The Kashkuli comes from the Fars region in the south of Persia, the highlands where the Gashgai nomads have for generations driven their herds over the Zagros passes between winter and summer pastures. The Kashkuli belong to this confederation, and their rugs tell of exactly this life on the move: expressive patterns in which geometric forms and freer floral motifs stand side by side, traditionally often knotted from memory. The hand-spun wool often holds a gentle Abrash: the subtle drifting of tones that arises when wool is dyed in different batches, and that brings every band of the rug to life. The dense, tightly knotted pile makes the Kashkuli a robust companion that is used to everyday life. Look at it and you see the signature of a people who set up and strike their home again and again.

This rug measures 286 × 200 cm and works well in a living room, dining room or bedroom. It comes in red and features an all-over pattern; the border is blue. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 100% virgin wool and a foundation of 100% cotton. Rugs of this quality typically have 250,000 to 490,000 knots per square metre. It is between 20 and 50 years old.

In the living room, a red rug becomes a warm island that anchors the seating; the coffee table stands fully on it and the sofa sits flush.

With the AR Visualizer, you can place this rug in your room to scale before you order and see how it looks.
