Around the city of Hamadan in western Persia lies a vast knotting landscape: countless villages where rug knotting is part of everyday life. The Bourtchalou comes from this tradition, in which every village cultivates its own signature: its own motifs, its own colour worlds, often inspired by life among fields, herds and handcraft. Sometimes playful floral tendrils, sometimes strictly geometric patterns, carried by warm reds, blues or beiges. It is knotted with the hard-wearing wool of the region, traditionally often hand-spun. This gives rise to the fine Abrash, the subtle shimmer of colour that underlines the village character of a Bourtchalou and sets it apart from industrial mass-produced goods.

This rug measures 206 × 152 cm and works well in a living room. It comes in beige and red and features a central medallion; the border is blue. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 100% virgin wool and a foundation of 100% cotton. Rugs of this quality typically have 160,000 to 250,000 knots per square metre. It is between 50 and 100 years old.

In the living room, a beige rug forms a light island that anchors the seating; the coffee table stands fully on it and the sofa sits flush.

With the AR Visualizer, you can place this rug in your room to scale before you order and see how it looks.
