The Kelim Ardebil comes from the cool north-west of Persia, from the region around the city of the same name at the foot of the Sabalan mountains. Here, in an old weaving landscape close to the Caucasus, flatweaves with a clear, geometric language are made, woven by hand, without pile, warp and weft joined via the “kelim slit” into lozenges, hooks and star medallions. The weavers of the region traditionally often work with hand-spun wool; this creates Abrash, that lively shimmer of tones which sets a hand weave apart from any machine-made piece. Kelim like these were once part of everyday life (as a cover, a blanket, a seating mat) and carry within them the sober, strong aesthetic of the Persian north-west. Each one is a work of patient handcraft, and no two pieces are alike.

This Kelim measures 402 × 183 cm and works well in a living room or dining room. It comes in a mix of colours and features an all-over pattern; the border is orange. It is flat-woven, with no pile; the material is 100% virgin wool, the foundation 100% cotton. It is between 20 and 50 years old.

In the living room, a colourful Kelim becomes an island that anchors the seating; a sofa in a calm tone lets it take centre stage.

With the AR Visualizer, you can place this Kelim in your room to scale before you order and see how it looks.
