The Gashgai are Turkic-speaking nomadic tribes whose women have for generations been among the outstanding weavers of southern Persia. A Kelim Gashgai is flat-woven and reversible, made in the characteristic slit technique, in which small openings at the colour boundaries create clear, harmonious transitions. The patterns speak the vocabulary of the nomads: diamonds, squares, stripes and the Caucasian star motif, woven in strong tones ranging from blue and red to yellow, green and beige. Where the wool is hand-spun and traditionally dyed, Abrash often appears: those fine variations in colour that vouch for the craft. Each Gashgai Kelim thus reflects not only the skill of its weaver but a cultural heritage passed down from woman to woman.

This Kelim measures 288 × 195 cm and works well in a living room, dining room or bedroom. It comes in beige and features a pattern divided into panels; the border is red. It is flat-woven, with no pile; the material is 100% virgin wool. You can use it on both sides. It is between 20 and 50 years old.

In the living room, a beige Kelim forms a calm, light island; the coffee table stands fully on it and the sofa sits flush with its edge.

Which rugs does Rugtales offer?

Handmade rugs and kilims, plus accessories made from rug and kilim pieces. Every piece is one of a kind, made from natural materials such as wool, cotton or sometimes silk by knotters and weavers who combine a centuries-old tradition with their own signature.

Are all rugs handmade?

Almost all of our rugs are hand-knotted or hand-woven; the technique is listed in the product details of every piece.

How do I recognise if a rug is authentic?

Genuine hand-knotted rugs clearly show the front pattern on the back, are made from natural materials such as wool, cotton or silk, and have small irregularities. They are part of the handwork and give the piece its character.

Do you also have vintage and antique rugs?

Yes. Our vintage rugs are usually 20 to 60 years old and show the warm patina that only age can give. We also carry antique rugs for collectors.

How do I care for my rug?

Vacuum regularly (without a brush head), turn the rug now and then and protect it from direct sunlight. For a thorough clean we recommend a professional rug cleaner. Avoid harsh cleaning agents.

Can rugs be used in high-traffic areas?

Yes. Wool rugs are very hard-wearing and work well in living rooms, hallways and dining areas.

Do you ship abroad?

Yes, to many European countries and to the UK. You can find all delivery countries, delivery times and shipping costs under Shipping & payment.

How do returns work?

You have 14 days after receipt to request a return, in your customer account or by email to hello@rugtales.com. The rug must be in its original condition. Within Germany and the EU we cover the return shipping costs (except Greece); for deliveries to Switzerland, Liechtenstein, the UK, Greece, Norway and Bosnia and Herzegovina you bear them yourself. Custom-made pieces cannot be returned.

How do I choose the right size and colour?

Consider the size of the room, the furniture and the light. Our guide has size and styling tips, and we are happy to advise you personally.

Can I see the rug before purchasing?

Depending on location, we offer private viewings by appointment. Write to us and we will find a time.

How long does delivery take?

We ship within 1 to 2 working days after receiving payment. Within Germany your rug then takes 2 to 5 working days, to the other delivery countries 2 to 8 working days.

Can I track my order?

Yes. As soon as your rug is on its way, you receive a tracking number and can follow the delivery until it arrives.

Are there care and styling tips?

Yes. Our guide and customer service give you tips on placement, styling and care, so your rug lasts a lifetime.
