Isfahan

Hand-knotted

Isfahan is one of the oldest cities in Persia, known for its domes, mosques and wide garden grounds. Exactly that visual language returns in the city's rugs: finely drawn vines, blossom motifs and ornamented medallions that recall the gardens and architecture of the region. Isfahan was already capital and court in Safavid times, and its workshops worked for palaces and mosques; that closeness to architecture still shapes the patterns today. The city counts as one of the strongholds of fine knotting, where highly experienced weavers bring out even the smallest details with clarity. On the upright loom, dense and precise patterns take shape with great depth of colour, all of it by hand, knot by knot. On a larger piece, a family will often work for months, sometimes for years.

This rug measures 160 × 108 cm and works well in a hallway, kitchen or entrance area. It comes in blue and features a central medallion; the border is red. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 95% virgin wool, 5% silk and a foundation of 100% silk. Rugs of this quality typically have 750,000 to 1,000,000 knots per square metre.

A blue rug gives the hallway calm and depth; with a hand's width of space to the walls it looks tidy rather than cramped.

With the AR Visualizer, you can place this rug in your room to scale before you order and see how it looks.
