On Jebel Sirwa, where the High Atlas and Anti-Atlas meet, the Ouzguit tribes weave the rugs that bear their name. In this remote mountain region, knotting is part of life, and the Ouzguit shows it in its fine, careful knotting in sturdy highland wool. Its language is geometry: clear diamonds, lines and signs that have always been read as symbols in Berber tradition, for instance of protection or life in the mountains. The colours often come from plant dyes, which is why the tones look vivid and natural. Where wool and dye are made by hand, the tone sometimes shifts slightly: Abrash, the lively hallmark of genuine handwork. In this way the Ouzguit combines robust craftsmanship with a symbolism deeply rooted in the mountains around Jebel Sirwa.

This rug measures 597 × 315 cm and works well in a living room or dining room. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 100% virgin wool and a foundation of 100% virgin wool.

In the living room, the rug anchors the seating; the coffee table stands fully on it, the sofa sits flush or slightly overlaps it.

With the AR Visualizer, you can place this rug in your room to scale before you order and see how it looks.
