A Gabbeh Basi bears the signature of the southern Persian nomads from the Fars region and the foothills of the Zagros. Here every rug begins with the wool: traditionally it is spun by hand, irregular and full of lanolin, and that is exactly what gives the surface its grainy, warm texture. It is often dyed with plants, which yields the strong red, yellow, green and blue that sit alongside calm natural tones such as cream, brown and grey. The patterns remain deliberately reduced: a single animal, a plant, a stylised motif from the everyday life of the weaving family, more feeling than template. Where the wool is hand-spun, the colour plays slightly from row to row. This Abrash is not a fault but the hallmark of genuine nomadic knotting art.

This Gabbeh measures 291 × 200 cm and works well in a living room, dining room or bedroom. It comes in grey; the border is grey too. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 100% virgin wool and a foundation of 100% virgin wool. Gabbeh of this quality typically have 90,000 to 250,000 knots per square metre.

In the living room, a grey Gabbeh gives modern furniture a soft base; wood and brass bring warmth.
