Moud rugs come from Moud in eastern Persia, in the Khorasan region, an area with a long knotting tradition. They are known for their fine knotting on a cotton foundation, which renders even the smallest motifs cleanly. This variant carries the eponymous ‘Mahi’ pattern: ‘Mahi’ is Persian for fish and describes the small, fish-shaped motifs that run in dense rows across the entire surface. The pattern is also known as Herati, named after the city of Herat. The fish lie between leafy tendrils and small rosettes. Rust and blue tones on a light ground often dominate, and the wool is usually clipped short. The even pattern has a calm effect and is easy to combine in many ways.

This rug measures 201 × 142 cm and works well in a living room. It comes in beige and red and features a central medallion; the border is red. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 100% virgin wool and a foundation of 100% cotton. Rugs of this quality typically have 360,000 to 490,000 knots per square metre.

In the living room, a beige rug forms a light island that anchors the seating; the coffee table stands fully on it and the sofa sits flush.

With the AR Visualizer, you can place this rug in your room to scale before you order and see how it looks.
