Nain is one of the best-known rug provenances of Persia. The town lies on the edge of the central Persian desert and was long known for fine woollen fabrics before knotting began there around a hundred years ago. This feel for fine yarn still shapes the rugs today: floral patterns and a typical palette in which variations of cream, white and blue set the tone, while strong red or green is rare. Characteristic are outlines that are often accentuated with silk or mercerised cotton, which gives them a subtle sheen. Nain rugs are graded by their ‘La’ number, that is, by how many single threads the warp thread is twisted from: the fewer threads, the finer the warp, the higher the knot density and the clearer the pattern. You can find the fineness of your Nain in the product details.

This rug measures 139 × 68 cm and works well in a hallway, kitchen or entrance area. It comes in beige and features a central medallion; the border is beige too. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 100% virgin wool and a foundation of 100% cotton. Rugs of this quality typically have 250,000 to 360,000 knots per square metre.

In the hallway, a beige rug brightens the way; leave a hand's width of floor free all round so it has room to breathe.
