The Gabbeh comes from the tents and villages of the Persian nomads, where women weavers once knotted their rugs for sleeping on, dense and with a high pile, to keep them warm on cold nights. The story here is told not with fine drawing but with clarity: stylised goats, camels, dogs, a few plants, sometimes people. It is the life of the weaving family, just as they saw it before them. The wool is often hand-spun, rich in lanolin, and gives the Gabbeh its grainy, lively surface. Natural tones such as cream, brown and grey meet strong red, yellow, green and blue, traditionally from plant dyes. That the colour shifts slightly from row to row is part of it. This so-called Abrash is the trace of hand-spun wool and a sign of honest nomadic craft.

This Gabbeh measures 127 × 84 cm and works well in a hallway, kitchen or entrance area. It features a plain field in beige; the border is beige too. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 100% virgin wool and a foundation of 100% virgin wool. Gabbeh of this quality typically have 90,000 to 250,000 knots per square metre.

In the hallway, a beige Gabbeh feels light and soft; leave a hand's width of floor free all round.
