Around the city of Hamadan in western Persia lies a lively knotting landscape: many villages where rug knotting has been part of everyday life for generations. Each village has its own signature, and the Dardjazin bears that of its namesake: strong, warm colours and playful, often geometric motifs that tell of people’s daily lives, of fields, blossoms and the things around them. It is knotted to traditional patterns, knot by knot by hand, mostly from robust, hand-spun wool. That is also where the appeal of Abrash lies: where wool is spun by hand and dyed in natural tones, the colour sways slightly, a sign of genuine village knotting, not a flaw. The Dardjazin is an honest, down-to-earth representative of the Hamadan tradition.

This runner measures 229 × 87 cm and works well in a hallway or kitchen. It comes in red and features a central medallion; the border is blue. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 100% virgin wool and a foundation of 100% cotton. Rugs of this quality typically have 160,000 to 250,000 knots per square metre.

A red runner leads you warmly through the hallway; leave a hand's width of floor free at the sides and it feels generous.

With the AR Visualizer, you can place this runner in your room to scale before you order and see how it looks.
