Khamseh is a region north of Hamadan in western Persia, and in the trade its rugs are counted among the large Hamadan family, an area known for its wealth of rug designs. What makes Hamadan special is that almost every village has, over time, developed its own way of knotting, with its own signs and motifs that you recognise from place to place. Khamseh rugs are among the lively, playful members of this family. Their patterns tell of the everyday life of the people who knot them: plants, animals and small signs of daily life, put together freely and cheerfully rather than strictly to plan. Where hand-spun wool is used, a gentle Abrash is part of the character: the quiet shimmer of tones that shows a person was at work here, not a pattern catalogue.

This rug measures 234 × 140 cm and works well in a living room, dining room or bedroom. It comes in blue and features a central medallion; the border is blue too. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 100% virgin wool and a foundation of 100% cotton. Rugs of this quality typically have 160,000 to 250,000 knots per square metre.

In the living room, a blue rug brings sofa and armchairs together into an island; cognac, leather and warm wood make a lovely counterpoint.

With the AR Visualizer, you can place this rug in your room to scale before you order and see how it looks.
