When you have a Gashgai in front of you, you are looking at the weaving art of nomadic tribes from the Fars region, where the foothills of the Zagros mountains frame the grazing land of the herds. The Gashgai are Turkic-speaking nomads who traditionally often knot their rugs not from a template but from memory: patterns that travel on from generation to generation. Typical are diamonds and medallions ranged vertically, surrounded by finely stylised blossoms, branches, birds and the animals of the tribe's own herd. Every motif tells of life between summer and winter pastures. Where hand-spun wool has been used, gentle shifts in colour, the Abrash, bear witness to the handwork and mean that no two bands look quite the same.

This rug measures 254 × 177 cm and works well in a living room, dining room or bedroom. It comes in red and features a central medallion; the border is beige. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 100% virgin wool and a foundation of 100% virgin wool. Rugs of this quality typically have 160,000 to 360,000 knots per square metre. It is between 20 and 50 years old.

In the living room, a red rug becomes a warm island that anchors the seating; the coffee table stands fully on it and the sofa sits flush.

With the AR Visualizer, you can place this rug in your room to scale before you order and see how it looks.
