Hand-knotted rugs are robust and durable if you follow a few simple guidelines.
🧹 Vacuuming without a brush head, in the direction of the pile. Not across the fringes.
💧 Spills should be dabbed immediately with a damp cloth, never rubbed.
🚫 Do not use chemicals or harsh cleaners. Professional cleaning is recommended for stubborn stains.
☀️ Avoid direct sunlight to slow down the fading of natural colours.
📦 Storage should always be rolled, never folded. Store in a dry and ventilated place.

Questions & Answers
Rugs made in nomadic tents and villages, for example by the Gashgai, Bakhtiari, Afshar, Turkmen or Kurdish weaving families. Typical are bold geometric patterns, often natural dyes and hard-wearing wool, which makes them look more original than fine city rugs.
Nomadic and village rugs are bolder, show geometric motifs and have a looser structure. City rugs are finer, more detailed and are made in large workshops. Nomadic and village rugs carry more of a personal signature, because each piece reflects the tradition of the tribe or village and the hand of the weaver.
Yes. They are knotted or woven entirely by hand on traditional looms. Slight irregularities are normal and show the handwork.
Mostly 100% hand-spun wool, often plant-dyed. The warp and weft consist of wool or cotton, depending on the tribe.
Absolutely. They are considered very robust, with a dense structure and strong wool. Perfect for living rooms, hallways, kitchens, and households with children or pets.
Many nomadic rugs are made on portable looms in tents or outdoors. Slight curves or asymmetric shapes are typical and part of their character.
Many pieces are dyed with plant-based or mineral dyes. These age particularly beautifully and provide warm, earthy tones.
Diamonds, animals, stars, flowers, and protective symbols. Each tribal group has its own design language.
Yes. Their clear geometric patterns and warm colours add an accent to pared-back, Scandinavian or minimalist rooms. Next to calm furniture, a nomadic rug becomes an island that holds the room together.
Vacuum gently, do not brush the fringes. Dab stains with cold water. For a deep clean, choose a specialist in handwoven rugs.
It depends on the tribe, age, rarity, wool quality, knot density and whether natural dyes were used. Gashgai, Kurdish and older Turkmen rugs are often more valuable.
Yes. Antique and semi-antique rugs are in high demand because they preserve traditional techniques and rare natural dyes.
