Sarough is a weaving village north of the city of Arak in Persia, formerly called Sultanabad. The rugs of the region are known for their dense pile, their heavy, firm construction and their careful workmanship; it is precisely this firm construction that makes them rugs for well-trodden rooms. Antique Sarough are particularly prized by collectors. Typical are floral patterns, often composed around a central medallion. Where hand-spun wool has been used, it brings fine nuances of colour, the Abrash, which lends depth to the dense pile.

This rug measures 215 × 134 cm and works well in a living room. It comes in red and features a central medallion; the border is beige. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 100% virgin wool and a foundation of 100% cotton. Rugs of this quality typically have 250,000 to 490,000 knots per square metre.

In the living room, a red rug becomes a warm island that anchors the seating; the coffee table stands fully on it and the sofa sits flush.

With the AR Visualizer, you can place this rug in your room to scale before you order and see how it looks.
