The Koutabad, too, comes from the wide landscape of villages around Hamadan in western Persia, an area where almost every village cultivates its own knotting language. Here rugs are made whose patterns grow out of the daily life of the knotters: sometimes floral tendrils, sometimes clear geometric fields, depending on the village set on warm red, deep blue or calm beige grounds. This palette is no accident but local tradition handed down over generations. Where the wool is spun by hand, it never takes up the dye quite evenly. The subtle Abrash that results is a mark of authenticity, not a flaw. A Koutabad brings exactly this unpretentious, organically grown village art into your home: strong, narrative and with both feet firmly in everyday life.

This rug measures 215 × 151 cm and works well in a living room. It comes in red and features a central medallion; the border is blue. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 100% virgin wool and a foundation of 100% cotton. Rugs of this quality typically have 160,000 to 250,000 knots per square metre. It is between 50 and 100 years old.

In the living room, a red rug becomes a warm island that anchors the seating; the coffee table stands fully on it and the sofa sits flush.

With the AR Visualizer, you can place this rug in your room to scale before you order and see how it looks.
