The Mahabad comes from the broad weaving landscape around Hamadan in western Persia, a region where practically every village has been making rugs for generations while keeping a handwriting entirely its own. What connects these village rugs is their directness: motifs that arise from the daily life of the people at the loom, set in strong colours. Floral and geometric patterns lie on grounds of red, blue or beige, and no two villages read this vocabulary the same way. The Mahabad is part of that living variety: grounded, hand-knotted and carried by a tradition never designed at a drawing board but passed from hand to hand. The hand-spun wool brings a fine abrash with it, the natural shimmer of colour that comes with real village work.
