The name Ekbatan recalls one of the oldest cities in Persia, and that rootedness is where the character of this rug type lies. Unlike the classic nomad or village rug, the Ekbatan follows no single tribal tradition; it grows out of the patient workshop labour of experienced hands, which weave geometric order and floral vines into a finely drawn pattern. This joining of clear structure and living flower work calls for a sure feeling for proportion, passed on across generations. Look at an Ekbatan rug and you see the handwriting of a knotting tradition that puts fidelity to detail above speed: every knot set to carry a calm, considered whole. So the Ekbatan speaks less of open country and migration than of the quiet skill of the Persian workshop.

This rug measures 366 × 264 cm and works well in a living room, dining room or bedroom. It comes in red and blue and features a central medallion; the border is blue. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 100% virgin wool and a foundation of 100% cotton. Rugs of this quality typically have 250,000 to 360,000 knots per square metre. It is between 50 and 100 years old.

In the living room, a red rug becomes a warm island that anchors the seating; the coffee table stands fully on it and the sofa sits flush.

With the AR Visualizer, you can place this rug in your room to scale before you order and see how it looks.
