Ardakan rugs come from the highlands around Yazd in the centre of Persia, an area with a dry climate and a long knotting tradition. The desert towns of this region have lived from craftsmanship for centuries, and the workshops pass on their knowledge within the family. In pattern and palette, Ardakan rugs are reminiscent of Kashan rugs: at the centre there is usually a large floral medallion surrounded by finely drawn tendrils. Ardakan rugs are densely knotted and robust: rugs made for everyday use that age beautifully over the years. Where the yarn is hand-spun, slight colour nuances (Abrash) are part of the picture and show that each piece was made by hand, not by machine.

This runner measures 270 × 75 cm and works well in a hallway or kitchen. It comes in blue and features an all-over pattern; the border is red. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 100% virgin wool and a foundation of 100% cotton. Rugs of this quality typically have 250,000 to 360,000 knots per square metre.

A blue runner draws a calm line through the hallway; with space to the walls it feels generous rather than cramped.

With the AR Visualizer, you can place this runner in your room to scale before you order and see how it looks.
