Bidjar rugs come from the town of the same name in western Persia, a region shaped by Kurdish culture with a long weaving tradition. They are known above all for their robustness. During knotting the weave is kept damp and the weft is beaten down firmly with heavy combs; this creates the dense, almost rigid structure that has earned the Bidjar its reputation. It makes them particularly hard-wearing and long-lasting, which is why they are better rolled than folded for transport. Their patterns are mostly clearly structured, often with a medallion or continuous scrollwork in strong reds, blues and beiges. Where hand-spun wool has been used, it brings subtle colour nuances (Abrash) that give the piece its own depth.

This runner measures 392 × 81 cm and works well in a hallway or kitchen. It comes in blue and features an all-over pattern; the border is beige. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 100% virgin wool and a foundation of 100% cotton. Rugs of this quality typically have 360,000 to 490,000 knots per square metre. It is between 50 and 100 years old.

A blue runner draws a calm line through the hallway; with space to the walls it feels generous rather than cramped.

With the AR Visualizer, you can place this runner in your room to scale before you order and see how it looks.
