Bidjar rugs come from the town of the same name in western Persia, a Kurdish-influenced region with a long weaving tradition. Tekkab is one of the knotting places in the region that work in this tradition. There, in the villages, knotting is often done in winter, when work in the fields is at rest. The Bidjar tradition is known above all for its robustness: the rugs are densely knotted and firmly beaten down, which makes them hard-wearing and long-lasting, even in rooms used every day. Their patterns are mostly clearly structured, often with a medallion or continuous tendril work in strong reds, blues and beiges. Where the wool is hand-spun, it brings fine colour nuances (Abrash) that give each piece its own depth.

This rug measures 162 × 94 cm and works well in a hallway, kitchen or entrance area. It comes in red and features a central medallion; the border is beige. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 100% virgin wool and a foundation of 100% cotton. Rugs of this quality typically have 360,000 to 490,000 knots per square metre.

A red rug makes the hallway warm and inviting; leave a hand's width of floor free at the sides so it can breathe.
