A handmade rug is created without machines, knot by knot or thread by thread, from materials such as virgin wool, cotton or silk. Cared for well, it will stay with you for decades.
Rugtales is a family business from Hamburg; our family has traded handmade rugs since 1952 and is now in its sixth generation. Every piece here is one of a kind.
🏅 Label STEP Partner
A standard for fair trade in handmade rugs: fair wages, health protection and occupational safety, against child labour.
🤝 CARE & FAIR
Education and health projects for weaving communities.
Hand-knotted rugs are robust and durable if you follow a few simple guidelines.
🧹 Vacuuming without a brush head, in the direction of the pile. Not across the fringes.
💧 Spills should be dabbed immediately with a damp cloth, never rubbed.
🚫 Do not use chemicals or harsh cleaners. Professional cleaning is recommended for stubborn stains.
☀️ Avoid direct sunlight to slow down the fading of natural colours.
📦 Storage should always be rolled, never folded. Store in a dry and ventilated place.

Questions & Answers
Kilim accessories are items such as cushion covers, poufs, laptop bags, table runners and wall hangings made from genuine hand-woven kilim rugs or textile remnants. Each piece is one of a kind and carries the patterns, colours and character of the original kilim.
Yes, our kelim cushions and bags are made from genuine hand-woven kelim pieces that are cut, reinforced and sewn. For all other accessories, the material is listed in the product details.
Each accessory comes from a different kilim, so no two pieces are identical. Patterns, colours and textures vary and give every product its own personality.
Yes. They are made from robust wool and/or cotton base fabrics. With reinforced seams and modern inner linings, they are sturdy enough for laptops and everyday items.
We advise against the washing machine: it can distort the weave or fade the colours. For heavy soiling we recommend professional dry cleaning.
From vintage kilims or kilim remnants, which get a second life this way.
Absolutely. Different patterns and colours, whether nomadic, urban or vintage, go well together. Poufs, cushions and laptop bags combine into a boho or eclectic look.
Prices depend on the size of the original kilim piece, the complexity of the pattern, the rarity of the colours and the type of accessory.
Yes. Hand-woven Kelim wool is naturally soft and breathable. Poufs and cushion covers are filled or backed to provide comfort while preserving their authentic character.
Each accessory shows a fragment of the original kilim, with genuine motifs in miniature, sometimes bold, sometimes subtle.
Yes. They are sturdily constructed and filled, allowing them to function as seating, footstools, or decorative elements.
Thanks to the wool fibres, they are naturally slightly water-repellent, but we recommend avoiding heavy rain or using additional protection.
