The Buchara takes its name from the old trading city of Bukhara in Uzbekistan, for centuries a hub on the Silk Road and a marketplace for Turkmen rugs. Its hallmark is the gül: a strictly aligned, often octagonal tribal medallion, frequently interpreted as an elephant's foot, glowing in deep red and burgundy tones. This calm, almost mathematical order makes a Buchara instantly recognisable. It is knotted densely and patiently, with soft, hard-wearing wool that makes the rug long-lasting. Where the wool is spun and dyed by hand, Abrash emerges, that quiet play of colour depth which distinguishes a hand-knotted Buchara from machine-made imitation.

This rug measures 165 × 117 cm and works well in a bedroom, hallway or kitchen. It comes in beige and red and features an all-over pattern; the border is red. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 100% virgin wool and a foundation of 100% virgin wool. It is between 50 and 100 years old.

Under or in front of the bed, a beige rug calms the room; linen, pale wood and muted tones go well with it.
