The Ghazvin carries the name of the old city of Qazvin in northern Persia, for centuries a centre of court art, calligraphy and book painting. You can hear that origin in the rug: it belongs to the town rugs, with finely drawn, sweeping floral work of vines, palmettes and medallions laid across the field in clear symmetry. Unlike the geometric nomad patterns, here the drawing of a carefully prepared design guides the weaver's hand, knot by knot. The workshops traditionally work with finely spun wool, and now and then delicate silk contours bring single lines forward. So the Ghazvin brings together the calm, classical sense of form of Persian town knotting with a density of pattern that demands the long breath of practised hands, a rug that carries the history and the craft of one and the same region within it.

This rug measures 295 × 198 cm and works well in a living room, dining room or bedroom. It comes in blue and features a central medallion; the border is red. It is hand-knotted, with a pile of 100% virgin wool and a foundation of 100% cotton. Rugs of this quality typically have 360,000 to 490,000 knots per square metre. It is between 20 and 50 years old.

In the living room, a blue rug brings sofa and armchairs together into an island; cognac, leather and warm wood make a lovely counterpoint.

With the AR Visualizer, you can place this rug in your room to scale before you order and see how it looks.
