More about Isfahan Rugs
In the Safavid era, Isfahan was the capital and seat of the court, and its workshops made rugs for palaces and mosques. This closeness to architecture returns in the rugs: finely drawn tendrils, floral motifs and ornate medallions. Our Isfahan rugs are very densely knotted from pure new wool, some with silk, and mostly on a silk warp.
Frequently asked questions about Isfahan Rugs
What is an Isfahan rug?
A hand-knotted city rug from Isfahan in central Persia, known for floral medallions, fine scrollwork and a very high knot density.
How can I recognise a genuine Isfahan?
By the very fine knotting (750,000 to 1,000,000 knots per square metre on our pieces), the short pile, a warp usually of silk and a back on which the pattern shows pin-sharp.
Is an Isfahan suitable for everyday use?
Yes, with a little consideration: it is better placed in a living room or bedroom than in a busy hallway. Vacuum gently and choose a specialist for a deep clean.
